Writing Time: Clarissa Says…
Hello, everyone! Jamie doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going to be taking over her blog now and then. Want insight straight from a muse? Here is your place to get it! I’ll even open this up to any questions you might have regarding muses and the whole writing thing.
You want to know what the most difficult part of being a muse is? Not having enough rope to tie your charge to a chair when you want them to get writing. I guess I should be used to that by now, especially when the internet is offering all kinds of shiny distractions. I swear, you all can be your own worst enemies with that. Come on, where is the quiet time for us to get through?
There are times when I need to resort to some really drastic measures to get her to start writing. I find threatening her with bodily harm works really well. Of course, I won’t really do anything to one of my charges, but don’t tell her that. It keeps the words flowing. As a muse, there is nothing better than seeing the words you inspired making it onto paper, or in Jamie’s case, screen. (She loves writing on a computer, no matter how many times I tell her that paper is better. I should know, I wrote a whole book that way and then made her type it up. )
For all the headaches, seeing one of the books I inspired in the hands of readers is the best thing ever. It almost makes me sorry for all the threats. But hey, whatever gets the job done, right? Find yourself your own thing that helps connect with your muse and commit to getting some words in. You and your muse will thank me later.
So what do you want to know about being a muse? Comment here! I’ll be checking in to answer occasionally. In the meantime, I need to go threaten Jamie again… she has another chapter to do today.
